ANSWERED Airvpn client cannot connect in Linux Mint 18.3 - Windows OK

I just install version 2.16.3 in Mint 18.3 Cinnamon. Installation is fine. However it cannot connect to any site. Any server connection goes into a loop and disconnect-reconnect. I have tried version 2.15.2, same effect.

 

It is a dual boot system and with windows 7, the connection goes through and work without issue. It is something with Mint (tried it on 2 computers). I tried differents protocols but it make no difference. Don't use any proxy either.

Hello!

Please try the following settings:

- from Eddie main window select "Preferences" > "Networking"
- set the "IPv6 layers" combo box to "Blocked"
- click "Save"

Alternative solution: upgrade to OpenVPN 2.4 or higher version.

Explanation: OpenVPN versions older than 2.4 do not handle IPv6 properly. So our servers do not perform the IPv6 push when they detect older versions, in order to not break retro-compatibility. However Eddie (for a bug in 2.15.x and 2.16.x, fixed in 2.17.2beta) tries anyway to check the IPv6 route in the tunnel and it obviously fails.

Mint 18.3 come with OpenVpn 2.3.10 by default. I will see if I can get a ppa for version 2.4. It seems that openvpn has some dependencies attached.

Just as a follow up I found the latest one (stable) here ;

 

community.openvpn.net/openvpn/wiki/OpenvpnSoftwareRepos

 

Uninstall previous version and follow the instructions, the correct line for the repo and Mint 18.3 is ;

 

> echo "deb http://build.openvpn.net/debian/openvpn/stable xenial main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/openvpn-aptrepo.list

 

which give me OpenVpn 2.4.6

 

Eddie now work fine with ipv6.

 

Note: Linux Mint Tara (19) comes with OV 2.4.4 which works probably ok.

 

Now I'll see if I can get that thing to work in Manjaro (18)
