jcwrh 0 Posted ... Hello everyone, I've managed to install openvpn for android on my sony android tv, using airvpn config files. Everything works as a charm. The only thing I'm missing is the abiltiy to activate some kind of vpn kill switch. I've turned on "persistent tun' in the openvpn for android app and this seems to work, but what if the app crashes? I've noticed a fallback to my normal (unsafe) connection, leaving my ip adress in the open. In regular android (starting from version 7), this feature can be enabled at the "vpn allways on" setting. For android tv this feature is somehow not available. Anyone else other idea's how to achieve this? Grtz, jcwrh Quote Share this post Link to post
Staff 9973 Posted ... Hello! Eddie Android edition has a much better leaks prevention than OpenVPN for Android. When Eddie Android edition exits the beta stage (stay tuned during this weekend...) it will be available for Android TV too. However, beware: some Android TV systems miss the SAF which is necessary to Eddie for the file chooser. Anyway if OpenVPN for Android runs in your Android TV device, Eddie will do too, because even OVPN for Android needs the SAF. In the future, Eddie will run even in Android TV versions featuring no SAF. jcwrh 0 Posted ... That is great news! It's actually for my Xiaomi Mi tv box, which has android tv installed (Oreo). What happens when Eddie client for android should crash? Will then a sort of network lock be activated and immediately cut off my internet connection, so that my real ip adress won't be exposed? When will the eddie client for android be available and can I download it in the google app store? The first integration is planned for version 2.0 coming out during October (initially as a beta version). Eddie Android edition 1.0 stable has the features you may have seen in RC5. The integration is particularly important because it can make Eddie work (at least with AirVPN) even in a device without SAF, so we are pushing for a quick development. Grtz, jcwrh Hello! First of all, it should not crash: we have worked hard to remove the numerous crashes and have a very stable application. Removal of Mono and Java rewrite/porting have been decisive and starting from RC5 we do not detect anymore the plethora of anr and crashes which plagued the previous versions. Anyway, if a crash occurs, it depends on its gravity: if the whole OpenVPN library is brought down, then Android will soon re-establish connectivity and your traffic will go outside the VPN. In every other case, for example if the communications between your device and the VPN server are interrupted, or your ISP renews the lease, you will not suffer leaks, because Eddie will either pause the VPN or "lock" the network. jcwrh 0 Posted ... Hello, Is there a way to force android-tv through vpn only, even if eddie-client should crash somehow? I know there is an option in regular android oreo to achieve this. Android-tv (also oreo) doesn't seem to have this option. Is there maybe some third-party app to achieve this? Thanks for al the previous replies. Your VPN is the greatest! jcwrh Quote Share this post Link to post
