New 1 Gbit/s server available (ES)

Hello!

We're very glad to inform you that a new 1 Gbit/s server located in Spain is available: Taurus.
 
The AirVPN client will show automatically the new server, while if you use the OpenVPN client you can generate all the files to access it through our configuration/certificates/key generator (menu "Client Area"->"Config generator").
 
The server accepts connections on ports 53, 80, 443, 2018 UDP and TCP.
 
Just like every other Air server,  Taurus supports OpenVPN over SSL and OpenVPN over SSH.
 
As usual no traffic limits, no logs, no discrimination on protocols and hardened security against various attacks with separate entry and exit-IP addresses.

But im kind of worried about the recents adds. Since a longer period of time pretty much all(?) servers, atleast in europe, seems to be hosted by m247. ES is m247 only, BE is, AT and CZ are and NO is.

Since blocking as9009 in general seems to be becoming a thing now.. (atleast thats what im noticing) what are your policys for the future adds? Looks like you want to replace a huge amount with m247?

Agreed. Although it's typical that VPN providers "resell" a preferred hosting company. Last I was with NordVPN, they were practically a front for Edis.at. We need network diversity. Relying on M247 excessively is a single point of failure. #RememberRapidSpeeds

In Spain we have two different providers. In general M247 provides us with services in Europe, Singapore and Japan. We rely on M247 for about 23% of our infrastructure in Europe, which is 50% less than our bandwidth redundancy in Europe, so we have no critical point here. About Japan, we have just begun to operate there with a server, so it's too soon to make general considerations. You have no reasons to worry.

 

About "network diversity" mentioned by another user, we are customers of 27 different providers, so nobody should complain about that.

 

Last but not least we have been working with M247 since 2015 and we have never had any critical issue.

In Singapore, which is a good hub for Pak, India, SEAsia, Indonesia, Australia, NZ (growth region!, which also has some rather nasty politics and low level corruption threats to personal and commercial security) 2 Air servers are hosted by Leaseweb Asia Pacific and are routed with 130ms ping from Australia, and are loaded up to >30% at peak evenings. Others are hosted by M247 and are routed with 370ms ping via California from AU, and usually have <10% load.

Checking with traceroute/tracert shows the reuse of m247 cable and routers, so they possibly can offer cheaper hosting by "reselling" their own network transmission, at the "cost" of less efficient data transfer. Should be monitored for effects on clients.

I see that there is no point to worry about right now, but like i said what i see is that most of the recents adds are hosted on m247 and im worried that the percentage will increase further in the (near) future.

 

ES is not M247 only? But All 3 Servers (Eridanus, Mekbdua and Taurus) IP-Space is announced by M247?

 

Thats said im a huge fan of you guys. Keep it up.
