bbc.co.uk (Not iPlayer)

I went on the the BBC news website recently on a UK server and was redirected to bbc.com. I know that iPlayer is blocked due to IP blacklisting however I dont quite understand why I'm getting redirected when just trying to read the news? I thought this is what Air was meant to stop.

I'm in the UK and it does it whether or not I'm connected to Air.

This is confirmed by another user too. It looks like currently BBC news redirects to bbc.com even from one or some UK residential ISPs.

They could be in the process of getting rid of their .co.uk and moving exclusively to .com. Would make sense for a organisation of their size.

I seem to remember reading that the BBC has a domestic version of its website and an international one. (The content is the same, however the prominence for the different news sections differs.)
