Asus DSL-AC68U as VPN client in Dual WAN with Virgin Superhub 3?

Hopefully someone will be able to help (and thank you in advance).

 

I have an Asus DSL-AC68U Modem Router. For the last 2 years I have been able to use it to connect to UK Sky's ADSL broadband service. I have been able to use the Asus DSL-AC68U as an VPN Client and connect to AirVPN's servers and the Internet. 

 

I have now moved to UK Virgin Media Fibre Optic service. I have set the Virgin Superhub 3 to "Modem mode" and connected the Asus DSL-AC68U to it as a Router by enabling the "Dual WAN" support. I can connect to the Internet.

 

I am able to use the AirVPN service and connect to the AirVPN servers and Internet by using the Eddie Client on my desktop.

 

However, the problem is that I cannot use the Asus DSL-AC68U as a VPN Client. I am using the same AirVPN OpenVPN configuration files as before (with SKy) but when I click on "Activate" the "Connection Status" shows as "Connection failed". I have tried to activate 4 different server configuration files with the same unsuccessful result. I have tried to download and use different configuration files without success.

 

Should I be able to use the Asus DSL-AC68U as a VPN Client when connected to the Virgin Superhub 3 in Dual WAN mode?

 

Or is it the case that this is simply not technically possible?
