Please try to delete the XML configuration file and restart the client. The file path can be found in the Air client logs. Finally, please make sure that you pick the correct proxy type (OpenVPN supports http and SOCKS proxies).

That's correct: with AirVPN over proxy, you will be visible on the Internet with the exit-IP address of the server you're connected to. For your purpose, just do not connect Air over proxy, use the proxy with a properly configured application after you have connected to Air with proxy "None".
