problem with .ovpn files with IP instead of hostname

Recommended Posts

When I create an .ovpn file and in the config generator select the option to put the direct IP in the file, rather than the hostname (for example, AirVPN's German server IPs rather than de.airvpn.org), it will give me an .ovpn file with just one single IP from that location, rather than all of them.

This means, when I use this .ovpn file, it will always give me the exact same exit IP.

Is there a way to create an .ovpn file with all the IPs from a specific location, rather than just one? Or can I find out, which AirVPN IPs belong to this location, so I can manually add them to the file?

You can resolve the country.all.vpn.airdns.org and get all IPs for a specific country. For Germany that will be:

$ dig a de.all.vpn.airdns.org

de.all.vpn.airdns.org. 3600 IN A 46.165.208.70
de.all.vpn.airdns.org. 3600 IN A 185.104.184.42
de.all.vpn.airdns.org. 3600 IN A 178.162.198.103
de.all.vpn.airdns.org. 3600 IN A 79.143.191.166
de.all.vpn.airdns.org. 3600 IN A 178.162.198.40
de.all.vpn.airdns.org. 3600 IN A 178.162.198.102
de.all.vpn.airdns.org. 3600 IN A 46.165.208.65
de.all.vpn.airdns.org. 3600 IN A 46.165.208.69

Then you have to put those addresses in the "remote" line, together with a port.

Thanks, the IP resolving worked, but I'm not sure how to separate the IPs in the .ovpn file. Do I just add more lines like this

remote [iP address 1] 443

remote [iP address 2] 443

remote [iP address 3] 443

for each IP?

Add "remote-random" as well, otherwise you will be connecting to the same IP once again.
