Soupcan Sam Hootkins 13 Posted ... Hey, everyone:I've read some material on Tor on this website, but still not sure if I should be using Tor with AirVPN or not. Does it enhance my security and anonymity if I do? Is it just better to use AirVPN? Seems like just using a VPN is more straightforward and less complicated (which is always a plus for me, since I'm not very knowledgeable regarding networking technologies). What are your thoughts? Soupcan Sam Hootkins 13 Posted ... Here is a page comparing a vpn with tor. https://airvpn.org/tor/THanks for the link. I've already read that page, and didn't quite understand it. It doesn't seem to quite make a comparison between using one or the other, just the two can be used together. Also, as a side not for AirVPN mod's if they come on here: that page needs to be updated for the newest versions of Eddie Quote Share this post Link to post

The VPN server knows your real IP.Then you start a Tor browser for example and browse somewhere with it. hence Tor over VPN. VPN over Tor: You connect to the Tor network, your exit IP is the Tor exit node one. The Tor entry node knows your real IP. (Both entry and exit are part of the network). Then you connect to the VPN server over the Tor network, it sees the Tor exit node IP, not your real one. Hence, VPN over Tor. It's a question of what is encapsulated in what. A Tor browser for example inside a VPN connection, or a VPN connection inside a Tor connection. Pros and cons are on the Tor enter page linked above. 1 Soupcan Sam Hootkins reacted to this Quote Hide OpenSourcerer's signature Hide all signatures NOT AN AIRVPN TEAM MEMBER.
