Connection established but no Internet / Mint 18.1

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I'm new user of VPN's. Yesterday I bought premium and I have problem with connection. Tried to connect to VPN via network manager (followed these instructions https://airvpn.org/topic/11432-using-airvpn-with-ubuntu-network-manager/). Everything seems fine, network manager is connecting to VPN (status connected) but when I run browser there's no Internet, can't access any page, can't ping anything. Any solutions? I'm using latest build Linux Mint 18.1 with Cinnamon, system is updated and upgraded. I think I downloaded and installed every necessary package. ISP isn't blocking these connection because when I run OpenVPN on my Android device, using same WiFi, everything runs flawlessy.

probably a DNS problem.  can you ping an IP  - 8.8.8.8  ?

Also, any reason why you aren't using the AirVPN software (Eddie)?

No, I can't:

mati@R2 ~ $ ping 8.8.8.8
PING 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8) 56(84) bytes of data.
^C
--- 8.8.8.8 ping statistics ---
50 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 49281ms

I want to use network manager, because that's still one app less on my computer and I wanted to share VPN connection for every user. Do you really recommend using Eddie?

Hello!

I strongly recommend trying Eddie. It's a great piece of software and just an OpenVPN wrapper anyway. I don't understand why you wouldn't be able to share your VPN connection. I use Mint too and I can easily create a WiFi Hotspot while Eddie is on, so that any other devices can connect .

Moderators do not speak on behalf of AirVPN. Only the Official Staff account does. Please also do not run Tor Exit Servers behind AirVPN, thank you.

Should work via the network settings. But also you can use Eddie stand-alone,so just extract in a dir and start the vpn by clicking airvpn (program)

Next you can make a link to the desktop.

You're not wrong. Besides, you could always check ipleak.net on whichever device it is.
