Connection failure on Windows 7 (wireless adapter auto-disabled)

Recommended Posts

I'm using the AirVPN client already on two Windows 8.1 systems, which works fine. However, I cannot get it to work on my third computer which is running Windows 7. The ping times out during the "checking route" phase. I am quite certain this is because my wireless adapter (which is an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 130) gets disabled as soon as the TAP-Windows Adapter tries to authenticate.

Here is a log of the client failing to connect with default settings:

Here is what I've tried already, to no avail:

  • Uninstalling/reinstalling the TAP Windows driver (with reboot in between)
  • Downgrading the TAP Windows driver to version 9.9.1
  • Uninstalling/reinstalling the AirVPN client
  • Updating the AirVPN client to the latest experimental build (Eddie 2.11)
  • Disabling "Check if the tunnel effectively works" and "Check if the tunnel uses AirVPN DNS" in the advanced settings of the AirVPN client. Now the client appears to connect, but the wireless adapter is still disabled, I cannot get any traffic and the connection times out after about 30 seconds.
  • Using the OpenVPN client to connect using a config file from the Configuration Generator. This gives similar results to the above: the client appears to connect, but the wireless adapter is still disabled, I cannot get any traffic and the connection times out after about 30 seconds.
  • Setting the wireless adapter to the highest priority under Network Connections > Advanced Settings > Adapters and Bindings
  • Updating the drivers for the wireless adapter (Intel Centrino Wireless-N 130) to the latest version (19.20.3)
  • Using the Administrator Tool from the Intel PROSet/Wireless Tools to generate a new Administrator Package where Adapter Switching is disabled under Application Settings, and applying the package to my computer
  • Booting into the BIOS to look for an option concerning disabling WLAN on LAN connection or something similar, but I found nothing.

Does anyone have a clue what I could try next? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello!

Did you try setting your TAP driver media status to "Always Connected"? Sometimes going into device manager and disabling the adapter before reactivating it again, can also help. What about turning off IPv6 at the adapter level? Also, are these things with or without Network Lock enabled? Do ensure no 3rd party security software could be interfering as well. You can always submit a support ticket too .
