AirVPN router + another router (DNS leaks)

Recommended Posts

OK, so first of all, I'm a newbie when it comes to networking, so please bear with me.

My ISP provides me with its own custom router (it's a must, unfortunately), which is connected directly to the network. I connected another router to it (an ASUS WRT router) as a client and configured this ASUS router to use my AirVPN. It works without any problems except for one thing: when I visit ipleaks.net, I see SOME of my ISPs data in the "DNS Address detection" section. From what it says below, "If you are now connected to a VPN and between the detected DNS you see your ISP DNS, then your system is leaking DNS requests". Is there any way to take care of this to make my connections more secure?

I was unable to configure point 3 in this article: https://airvpn.org/asuswrt/ - using this DNS setting caused my connection to the original router drop. Perhaps I should set the DNS according to this article, but in my ISPs router?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Changing the DNS probably reset the WAN connection and DHCP didn't work properly to restore your WAN connection to the ISP router.  Try the DNS changes again according to point 3 but this time reboot your Asus router.  Reboot even the ISP router if you need to.  There's no reason why it shouldn't work.
