Without VPN, I get 10 to 15 Mbps down and 2 to 3 Mbps up according to speedtest dot net. With VPN, I get roughly 0.5 both ways. Without VPN, I can watch YouTube videos and Netflix and the like without interruption except for rare occasions.

So I changed to port 80, but speedtest reports about the same, and YouTube videos pause every few seconds for buffering. Port 53 same.

In one post here on this forum, I read, "your ISP might cap ports (in this case, test ports 80 TCP, 53 TCP and 53 UDP, which are less likely to...)" but I have no idea how to specify TCP versus UDP. All I did on port 53 was to change the port number in the config file. How can I specify UDP? And if that doesn't work, what other ports might I try?

You can specify the port and the protocol with our configuration generator. If you wish to change manually the protocol, edit the configuration file, find the directive "proto" and change it according to your preferences:

proto tcp

or

proto udp

OK, so I modified the [ air.ovpn ] file and tried port 80 tcp, port 80 udp, port 53 tcp, port 53 udp and various combinations on various servers (Castor, Delphini, Leonis, etc). No matter what I try, it is either "failed to connect" or if it does connect, speedtest dot net shows approximately 0.5 Mbps and YouTube videos pause every few seconds for buffering. Are there other ports that would work? Or is my OS missing some components? (XP home, 32 bit)

Here is another question.

I am logged in now using Linux Mint (also have PC Linux OS and Scientific Linux on the same box), but not connected to Air. Hoping for better luck with Linux, I clicked on:

Member Area > Access without our client

but this link takes me to the OpenVPN Configuration Generator. There is no option for accessing Air on that page. Can you tell me how to connect without using the OpenVPN client using any one of the Linux flavors I have? Or what other flavors of Linux would be most likely to produce the desired result? I really want to use this service, but 0.5Mbps is not a viable option.
