OpenVPN client started, but shows no traffic (QNAP 4.2.1)

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I established the VPN client connection using UDP, but no traffic from "donwload station" or "transmission" is routed through the tunnel.

The Client area in airvpn shows my connection, but after download files, the session statistics shows very, very, little traffic.

My default gateway is enabled on this connection, so normaly all the traffic should be routed.

Any suggestions?

Thx, Ludo

QNAP has released an 4.2.2. in augustus 2016.  After installing the upgrade, the traffic is routed correctly through the VPN tunnel.

Config = QNAP TS-251+ running 4.2.2.

Good Morning,

Just want to know if the installation of AirVpn on your Qnap required manual setup, or you simply created the profile and browse for the certificate in the VPN client setup, I never be able to get an OpenVpn work properly that way and never found the correct instruction to be able to use OpenVpn with the Qnap I'm currently using PPPTP wth another provider and have a lot of problem !

Best,

Hey Silvain,

In QNAP 4.2.1. I performed manual steps, as described in my Original posting.  After installing the QNAP 4.2.2. I just clicked the connect button and the VPN showed the connected status AND was actively routing the traffic.  I didn't peform anything else.  I didn't even try to setup a connection through the GUI of the QNAP. I don't use PPPTP.

I hope this helps you.

Hello,

My VPN is working stable.  I didn't create another VPN.  All trafic is routed through the VPN tunnel towards Airvpn.

Hi,

I'm running on 4.2.3 and can't connect the client to the server (it stays on "Connecting..."). As the GUI settings did not work, I tried the fix described for v. 4.2.1. So here are my client settings:

dev tun2002
proto udp
remote SERVERIP.vpn.airdns.org 443
client
nobind
cipher AES-256-CBC
comp-lzo
cert /share/MD0_DATA/homes/admin/vpn/user.crt
key /share/MD0_DATA/homes/admin/vpn/user.key
tls-auth /share/MD0_DATA/homes/admin/vpn/ta.key 1
writepid /var/run/openvpn.client2.pid
reneg-sec 0
tls-cipher TLS-SRP-SHA-RSA-WITH-3DES-EDE-CBC-SHA:TLS-DHE-RSA-WITH-AES-128-CBC-SHA:TLS-DHE-RSA-WITH-AES-256-CBC-SHA
tls-exit
remap-usr1 SIGTERM
connect-retry-max 1
auth-retry nointeract
resolv-retry infinite
route-noexec
auth-user-pass /etc/config/openvpn/clients/client1.auth
log-append /share/MD0_DATA/homes/admin/vpn/openvpn.log
script-security 3
up /etc/openvpn/openvpn_up
down /etc/openvpn/openvpn_down
daemon openvpn-client
plugin /usr/lib/vpn_ext.so 1

I got the following error:

Sat Feb 11 19:07:45 2017 RESOLVE: Cannot resolve host address: SERVERIP.vpn.airdns.org: Name or service not known

Any ideas?

Thanks

They've been telling me it will be fixed for almost a year.  Any confirmation that they have?  I can't test by updating my entire system just to find out that I have to roll it all back to get things working again.  :-)

Hi Caliban,

I'm running Qnap 4.3.3 now.

Now you can import ovpn files.  My old connections aren't working anymore and had to create new one.  These connections (1 for UDP, 1 for TCP) are working right now.

I have the impression that they are rather slow?  But that's just an impression.

Conclusion: OVPN files are working

Succes!
