AirVPN on a D-Link DSR-250 VPN Router

Recommended Posts

I bought a D-Link DSR-250 VPN Router to put all my devices behind a VPN. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to configure it. It is a commercial level router and there are many more options than a simple router. Has anyone configured one before and got it to work? Can someone help me?

Hardware version: A1

Firmware: 1.09B32_WW

I did some searching.  Best I could tell that router can't run as an openvpn cilent.  It does support an openvpn server.  But, maybe I missed something.

If we are talking about the same hardware take a look at the manual at page 117 and give it a try..."To configure the router as an OpenVPN client:"

The nearest thing I could find is here:

Just follow the steps from the images below and upload the certificates and adjust the settings:

If you are unsure about any setting, you can use the DD-WRT manual as a reference, it looks very similar.

That is the pages I have been fiddling with. I could not seem to get it to work. Traffic from my network was not behind a VPN (as seen by my external IP). Here is as far as I got.

If I turn it on now I see a connection in my account at airvpn.org client area. Then I am unable to open any websites after another minute. I figured that could be a dns issue so tried accessing google by IP 216.58.209.110 rather than google.com. It did not work. All websites fail to load with these settings. I have to disable the openVPN to be able to browse again.

I tried TLS on/off, user auth on/off. Can't seem to figure this router out.

From inside my ovpn file:

I did try Google's DNS. It does not help. No websites open while VPN is active. Cannot find server errors on everything. VPN connection shows up on airVPN website in my client area. (Using a different internet connection of course)
