Ability to Purchase more connections!

Recommended Posts

I would love to see the ability to purchase more connections! as 3 is not enough and having to manage more than one account under a different email is a pain. Why not take an approach like TorGuard? who allow you to add more connections to your account for $1 a month for example.

This is the only thing holding me back from purchasing AIR as my main VPN.

Also is there any news for an IOS client?

There is only one openvpn client for iOS.  The official one, openvpn connect.  Apps made by VPN companies usually use the protocols built into iOS (e.g. L2TP/IPsec).  It's very easy to add AirVPN configs to openvpn connect.  Just browse the config generator section of this web site with your iOS device

You do understand that managing accounts with various preferences from each other means 100% logging?

Otherwise there is no technical way to achieve such "connection upgrades" without keeping a RADIUS server that

holds up each and every user information and shares it among all nodes.

The only way to keep a log-free service is making all accounts identical, with the only exception of an expiration date,

which does not require any advanced logging and billing systems, it uses the same logic as SSL client certificates with

expiration dates.

Always remember that when a provider offers you extra, sometimes highly marketed "features", this might come in

the expense of your privacy.

This doesn't much matter what they say at this point, since if they are technically able to provide your account with more sessions than to other users,

there must be a backend system to enforce it, which will inevitably require logging and billing (even if only for accounting purposes).

With Air, you don't have "superior" accounts, you just pay for certificates that are valid to connect to all servers for a certain amount of time.

Any "upgrades" or some tricks providers try to show as advantage cannot be technically done without negatively affecting privacy.

Hello!

We think that three simultaneous connections from any network / IP address without any limitation on each connection slot is enormously more valuable than five simultaneous connections only from the same network. what do you think?

Sure, but TorGuard says they allow 5 connections from anywhere.  Of course, I'm not arguing that Air should increase the number of connections they allow.  I'm just curious about this use case as read on reddit.

Understood... if there's no limitation on the source IP address or network, it would not be possible anyway for us. Since each additional connection slot is sold at 1 USD, this is similar to selling independent accesses at about 1 USD for the whole duration of the main subscription. Not sustainable with our bandwidth allocation commitment and quality of service we are currently providing, and we don't frankly believe it could be sustainable for any VPN service that wish to provide at least 8-16 Mbit/s per connection (with no VPS and using almost every time datacenters with good or excellent peering). Feel free to check: make your calculations based on the cost of bandwidth nowadays in the countries we have servers in...

Kind regards

If anyone needs proof that provider X is using VPS servers without guaranteed bandwidth (and hence no realtime monitoring) feel free to

reply to this thread and specify the provider name. I just don't want to make it sound "forced" like I am trying to disvalue other services without reason.

As for TorGuard, as it was already mentioned, I can find that at least 30% of their infrastructure is based on guarantee-less VPS servers, sometimes at 15/month each.

I even bought a trial account for this purpose, since they don't allow you to view the servers addresses without it.

Disclaimer:

There is nothing totally "wrong" operating a VPN service while relying on shared VPS providers, and in some cases

not even providers, but just re-sellers of other providers, like in the case above. As long as the user knows how to do his

own homework before buying a plan. Some companies, like HMA, did a fortune by selling cheap boxes in many places of

the world, that would be barely useful as proxy servers for browsing, as a top notch VPN service.

This is up to the user to do the testing and make sure the service is actually qualifying for his own needs. Overselling occurs

everywhere, not only in the online business. Other industries invented it, and inevitably you can see it on the VPN market as well.

But always try to compare apples to apples, just like you don't expect to get premium food at McDonalnd's and their prices

Here you have some Italian chefs, and the ingredients they use are carefully selected and usually never disappoint.

Another VPN provider of mine has a server with these guys in Dallas.  https://www.incero.com/

I priced a cheap server but with a gigabit unmetered line and it's still $2245 per month.  That's not cheap!  The same setup but with a 100TB plan (not unmetered) is $545 per month.

Allow me to ask which "not exactly educated" VPN provider buys from Incero directly without going via their official resellers from WHT first.

These prices are made for enterprise customers where prices, even ten-fold, are not an issue, and remote hands come at first priority.

Here is the most common plan VPN providers get from Incero:

https://order.incero.com/display/13/hp100

Where you get the first gigabit 20TB on an E3-1230 for 100$.

Then you can climb to 100TB that will be billed around 300$.

Official Incero pricing (no discounts) is $499 for a 22U rack, 120v/20 and unmetered 1Gbit (320TB):

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1545221

This means it can hold 20 machines there at that price.

P.S.

When you check their promos you get even better deals:

https://twitter.com/Incero/status/609005833779695616

Tip:

Never look at the DC official price page

But anyway, please let's stay on the topic.

you're probably 100% right about what the VPN provider does.  I just had no idea where else to look.

I'd love to know whether Perfect-privacy uses dedicated servers or not, they got quite a lot in a few countries I'd imagine dedicated servers would be overpriced but their service is also high priced

Thank you very much, I am speaking for my self but others should also join in. He/She spent money on another VPN service to bring the info here free of charge. Not many are willing to spend the money to give away for free.

Strongly Agree....Three is enough, and generous compared to most of the competition. If you need more, buy another account. PP is excellent value as is.

To protect more devices there are easy solutions. Let me show you how I solve this "problem"

- My first connection is set up with my router at home. I flashed DD-wrt and have created 2 WIFI networks one with an open connection and one with a secure connection to Air. Connection is live 24/7 so I can always quickly change depending on my needs. Of course when the connection fails the route drops and the internet gets cut of requiring me to reboot the router. (extends the number of devices)

- Secondly I use a raspberry pi with 2 wifi adapters. The pi gets internet using wifi or ethernet cable and creates it's own network I only use this network when travelling and when staying somewhere for a while. if you're interested you can try this yourself using this or use this github repo with an easy installer. isn't always on. (extends the number of devices)

- And last when not using my pi and I'm away from home I also have my laptop and smartphone set up with Air. And my laptop can create a virtual network of it's own using Microsoft's hostednetwork feature. (extends the number of devices)

So I always am protected and am able to protect myself on more then 3 devices however mostly I only add a tablet but good to know they are there for me.

And I see no need for more devices if you use them wisely currently I have 3 providers the other 2 have 5/6 connections but even before Air I never used more than 3 because of this tricks. However I am quiting one of them because Air is better but keep the other for when I need to access some websites from specific countries.

Helping mankind one line of code at a time.

Kind regards, Me

What about NordVPN? Any opinions

Maybe this will be a little instructive.

Wouldn't a lot of people like to have more connections available to them through AirVPN, by their simply paying a bit more on their present account? 3 sessions/account, max, can be too low for some, I would think.

-- grok.

people just need to use (dedicated device that acts as router/gateway/firewall for local network) as their openvpn client then.

Most definitely. But it's not happening. I've listed why, in my guide.
