For servers that have improper Google Geolocation report the inaccuracy to Google

Recommended Posts

Hello, i'm not sure what AirVPN is willing to do, but for users like us that recieve improper geolocation from google, please submit a request to google as you find errors. If www.dnsleaktest.com and ipleak.net all show as being in a certain country that google does not show report the incorrect google geolocation to them via their report page.

Here is their report page: https://support.google.com/websearch/contact/ip

Even if we are able to look it up ourselves, in such cases a link to the report page would speed up things.

This should not be used unless Staff themselves agree!

Staff/Moderator: If the address i listed is not an option could you please provide a solution that does not expose our individual affiliations with the service? I personally used my Tor email address to file reports.

Okay, then it's best to write exactly why you want us to enter the email you specified. Because if the argument is privacy concerns, people might just use a throwaway mail address of theirs.

i used a tor email myself, i just assumed AirVPN would be able to take responsibility for their servers in dealing with Googles inaccuracy instead of letting their customers deal with the problem themselves. But it does not bother me to use a throwaway email and if using AirVPN's email in the report is such an offense i will use a unidentifiable email. As long as the error is corrected on Googles behalf one way or another.

For the record, i just find it disturbing that almost all VPN servers from all providers; not just AirVPN have incorrect geolocation whether its with google or maxmind their is always a disconnect that almost never happens with non VPN ip's. If no one can be bothered to fix it i am perfectly content with using the very few servers that do have proper geolocation.

The problem you are describing occurs in much smaller cases than you make it sound,

If no one can be bothered to fix it i am perfectly content with using the very few servers that do have proper geolocation.

There are very few servers that have imporper geolocation.

1) All servers have correct geolocation on Maxmind, at the time of writing

2) Some servers have imporper geolocation on Google, but there are alternative

servers in the same country which you can connect to, where Google has a correct

geolocation.

Since Google is probably aware of their bad state of their own GeoIP database,

the fact that people can travel and have different addresses, and the fact that the IPv4

market today is very dynamic and ISPs can find themselves buying IPv4 blocks from an IP

broker that isn't even in their RIR zone - they allow you to switch the language in their

services (Search, Play Store, YouTube, etc) so the impact of the incorrect geolocation

should be minimal to non existing.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could make a post that has a chart of which servers have incorrect geolocation, it would make it easier for people like me that are always going through trial and error

Zosma, Kaus, and Tegmen don't.

Zosma and Kaus have correct -Country- location, this is what is important in over 99% of cases.

A city locatition is very hard inside the U.S. - even big ISPs like Comcast, Cox and Verizon can

have GeoIP ranges from Chicago, when the subscriber is on the West or East coasts.

Tegmen has mixed results depends on which database you are checking on. Anyway having so

many services in Canada, a single location error on some sites can be barely considered an impact.

"1) All servers have correct geolocation on Maxmind, at the time of writing"

Most US based servers reroute to Kansas or Arizona.

Please explain this statement.

Rerouting (such as done for services like Netflix) and Geolocation are completely unrealted things.

I apologize, i meant Geolocation. dnsleaktest.com and ipleak.net show most US servers as being in Kansas or Arizona
