ptolemyiv 4 Posted ... Anyone got recommendations of a UK vpn to use... I generally use Nashira but it drives me mad google (and some other sites consequently) always detecting me to be based in Belgium - obviously affects search results and regularly get websites in French or Dutch. I have reported the IP to google countless times and whilst they claim they will fix locations within 1 month, it has never happened. Despite airvpn's claims, I also have NTP ports blocked on this VPN. As a means to try to fix I tried switching recently to Naos - this was even worse. Whilst it detected as being in the UK AND ntp ports worked fine, I had issues with stability / speed and, most deal-breakingly, many websites (such as tesco.com) simply will not work. Anyone else able to recommend any of the other servers that address these issues? (I use dd-wrt + web hosting + port-forwarding so it's a bit of hassle to run through and try each in turn) EDIT: I have also tried iplocation.net and oddly it does identify Manchester, UK as my location which is the "true" location of Nashira - no idea why google comes up differently but expect there is no easy fix than to change serves. I also don't want to simply start using google ncr - that is an unnecessary hack and means I end up with US shopping results etc rather than UK ones. Quote Share this post Link to post
eyes878 43 Posted ... Have you tried Dabih or Nunki which are on a different host? Naos and Nashira are from the same host. You could also try Carinae, which again, is on a different host. Quote Share this post Link to post

Despite airvpn's claims, I also have NTP ports blocked on this VPN. Cannot confirm. (There's some other thread talking about this; cannot find it since search queries need to have more than 4 characters and NTP would find it very fast). And what exactly do you mean with VPN? A provider? A VPN server? Please use unambiguous words. :/ Quote Hide OpenSourcerer's signature Hide all signatures NOT AN AIRVPN TEAM MEMBER. USE TICKETS FOR PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT. Staff 9973 Posted ... Despite airvpn's claims, I also have NTP ports blocked on this VPN. We have never blocked and we do not block NTP on any VPN server. Kind regards Quote Share this post Link to post
ptolemyiv 4 Posted ... As I said in original post - no country redirect is not a workable solution. It then just takes me to google US results (rather than UK) and there are other websites also affected. Re NTP, yes I meant VPN server - I understand AirVPN do not block but for some reason I cannot access NTP servers on port 123 behind my router on certain servers whereas I can on others.. so it is something specific to those servers and I have tried multiple different NTP servers to ensure it isn't an arbitrary blocking.. perhaps there is some IP block list the main NTP servers all subscribe to? Will try Dabih - thanks for suggestion Quote Share this post Link to post

You can manually go to google.co.uk and search but you cant configure this in e.g. android chrome (it auto-detects) - same with safari. Also some other websites must use same google location algorithm so have same problem. Anyhow Dabih seems to be working ok, I can still go to tesco.com, and NTP seems okay. Would love to know out of curiosity the potential NTP quirk on certain servers if I any bright bods can figure it out. Quote Share this post Link to post

There's some other thread talking about this; cannot find it since search queries need to have more than 4 characters and NTP would find it very fast I've found a workaround to finally search for terms with less than four letters. Would love to know out of curiosity the potential NTP quirk on certain servers if I any bright bods can figure it out. This is the most relevant topic about it, speaking of NTP blocks in the datacenters of AirVPN's servers:Problem access ntp serversSo, the workaround here is to use another server. There are a few topics about DD-WRT not connecting because NTP cannot sync the time (on 01/01/1970 the certificate is not valid, of course). Mr. A340 managed to solve it through a shell command, but he didn't write which one. And he also seems to be more or less inactive currently, given the date of his last login, but you can of course try to contact him or even look up the command on the internet yourself.
