Cannot find tunnel adapter -- any help greatfully appreciated

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer, this is my first time trying to use a VPN and my computer seems intent on making it as tricky as possible.

I am running Windows Vista 32 Bit.

I have installed Air VPN, but I am struggling to get the tunnel driver to work. When I go into Device Manager the TAP-Windows Adapter V9 is showing an error code 37: “Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware”.

I have tried all the obvious solutions: installing as administrator; using CCleaner; removing everything and start again (on numerous occasions)and I’m not running any virus software. Unfortunately nothing has worked.

Now I know very little about logs and registries, etc, so excuse my ignorance, but I’ll do my best to provide any information required.

Firstly please see the Air VPN log:

Can anyone advise on what steps I should take to diagnose the issue?

You could try installing the driver which comes with the standard OpenVPN package. Direct download, for your convenience

When you are on the Choose components screen deselect everything but "TAP Virtual Ethernet Adapter". If errors come up, post them here.
