On either server on either mode my p2p client is working but when I go do some web browsing on Google Chrome on Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit I have not been able to do Facebook or check my e-mail.

Hello!

It looks like a DNS resolution problem.

Please verify that your DHCP client service is active and running. Find it in Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services. Its name is "DHCP Client". Set it to "Automatic Start" and "Start" it too, if it's not running.

Also, check your DNS. Make sure that either your system obtains DNS servers automatically, or it uses AirVPN's DNS servers or publicly accessible DNS servers (here a guide to change DNS on Windows Vista: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Change-TCP-IP-settings).

See here to see the VPN internal DNS server IP address according to the port you connect to:

https://airvpn.org/specs

If a setup with "Obtain DNS servers automatically" still does not work for you, try to set the primary DNS to 10.*.*.* (according to the port OpenVPN uses, for example for 443 UDP set it to 10.4.0.1) and the secondary to any public DNS server available.

Finally, please send us the connection logs.

We're looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

The DNS and DHCP settings are correct.

Hello!

The logs look just fine. When you say that your browser "barely" connects to web sites, do you mean that sometimes it connects and sometimes not, or that domain names are never resolved? Can you please ascertain if DNS resolution is performed properly or not? To do that, you can for example run "ping www.google.com" and see what happens.

Since your torrent client works fine, it is highly likely that this is a DNS issue.

We're looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Hello!

Good, so it appears to be a browser-related issue. Which browsers have you tested? Is their behaviour the same?

Hello!

Can you please test whether your firewall blocks browsers? Maybe it allows those browser to send and receive packets only through your LAN or WiFi adapter, blocking the browsers on the TUN/TAP interface (networks are different, we have sometimes experienced this problem with some applications and the Windows 7 firewall). This is not very likely, since all the other applications of yours work, anyway it's an attempt that's worth to do since it will take you just a few seconds.

We're looking forward to hearing from you.

I'm having a similar issue - other programs work fine, but I can't browse using any browser. The status bar reads "Connected to..." but doesn't get any further than that.

I've tried to set the DNS to the recommended value, with 8.8.8.8 as the secondary connection, however I don't really know what I'm doing here. I did that for TCP/IPv4, but what about IPv6? I have a dial-up style connection.

Right now I'm browsing as standard without AirVPN, and as you can see it works fine.

Can you walk me through the steps I need to do to sort this out?

Thanks in advance.

Hello!

Do you mean that any program except your browser can perform DNS resolution?

To test this out, please open a shell (or a command prompt, according to your OS) and issue the following commands:

ping 46.105.19.36

ping airvpn.org

and please send us the output of those commands.

Then, from you browser, try to access:

https://46.105.19.36 and https://airvpn.org

and please report the results.

I've tried to set the DNS to the recommended value, with 8.8.8.8 as the secondary connection, however I don't really know what I'm doing here. I did that for TCP/IPv4, but what about IPv6? I have a dial-up style connection.

Currently we only support IPv4.

Can you walk me through the steps I need to do to sort this out?

Thanks in advance.

What is your OS and your browser? What do you use to connect to an AirVPN server (for example our client, OpenVPN GUI, Tunnelblick, network-manager...)? Can you please send us the connection logs?

Kind regards

I'm connecting using AirVPN.exe, so I guess that's your client.

If I access airvpn.org in the browser I get stuck at "Connecting..."

If I access 46.105.19.36 I get:

Hello!

It looks like OpenVPN can not change properly the routing table. In order to do so, OpenVPN needs to run with administrator privileges. The AirVPN client runs OpenVPN with elevated privileges, however chances are that Microsoft Security Essentials interferes with it (perhaps it wrongly detects the OpenVPN behavior as malware - please note from the logs that initially OpenVPN changes the routing table, then it can't). Please try to test a connection with MSE disabled and tell us the results at your convenience.

Kind regards

Thanks for the response.

I disabled MSE by unchecking Realtime Protection, however no change I'm afraid.

Hello!

Can you please try a connection with the OpenVPN GUI?

In order to do so, log in our website and go to "Member Area"->"Access without our client". Pick your favorite server and port and download the archive that the system will automatically prepare for you. Decompress and copy all the files inside it (four files: user.crt, ca.crt, user.key and air.ovpn). Paste the file in the OpenVPN configuration directory, which on a default Win 7 installation is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenVPN\config

This operation is required only once. Do not give to anyone your user.key.

Then launch with administrator privileges OpenVPN GUI (right-click on the icon and select "Run as administrator"). Do NOT launch the Air client. Right-click on the OpenVPN GUI dock icon (two small monitors) and select "Air"-->"Connect". After the connection is established, please send us the connection logs (right-click on the dock icon and select "Air"->"View Logs").

We're looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Hello!

The problem remains. Chances are that the TUN/TAP adapter has not been properly installed.

Try to uninstall completely OpenVPN and re-install it, making sure that when the system asks you to install any driver you authorize it to do it (the whole procedure will take just a few minutes).

While on our package you can find the latest OpenVPN stable release, you might want to try the latest 2.3-alpha version available here:

http://openvpn.net/index.php/download/community-downloads.html

Kind regards

I did a reinstall with the 2.3 version. I was asked to authorize installing the TAP adapter and did so. I uninstalled again and reinstalled, this time with MSE turned off. However the problem remains.

Is there something I can do in my network settings to the TAP-Windows Adapter V9 other than changing the DNS address? It looks like it's there and installed, it just isn't able to use it to connect to the internet.

To give an update, I think I've resolved this.

I went in to the advanced options for the Windows firewall and deleted all the rules connected to OpenVPN. Now I see to be online okay!

Thanks again for the help :cheer:
