Waiting for server response

Recommended Posts

Anytime I try to connect via tunnelblick, it just says " waiting for server response" forever (almost).

Hello!

The problem seems to lie here:

2012-02-17 21:35:52 TLS Error: TLS key negotiation failed to occur within 60 seconds (check your network connectivity)

2012-02-17 21:35:52 TLS Error: TLS handshake failed

Can you please make sure that Tunnelblick can access the certificate files (user.crt and ca.crt) and the key (user.key)?

Also, please to connect to another port (for example 80 TCP).

We're looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

I'm having the exact same problem and getting the same error. I don't know how to check the certificate files or connect to another port.

Can you please help me?

Hello!

Open Tunnelblick, locate "VPN Details..." window, then click the "gear" button at the bottom of the list and select "Edit OpenVPN Configuration File…". That will open the installed OpenVPN configuration file in TextEdit. Changes take effect as soon as the file is saved in TextEdit. Note that this does not modify your original .tblk; it modifies the installed copy only.

When the TextEdit show your configuration file, locate the line that begins with "remote", it will appear like:

remote a.b.c.d <portnumber>

For example, to connect to Draconis server on port 80:

remote 178.248.29.132 80

Changing will change the connection port. Valid connection ports are 53, 80 and 443.

Then, locate the line "proto " and change (if necessary) it to:

proto tcp

Save and try again to connect.

I went ahead and just created a new configuration file. Worked like a charm.

Perhaps my other file was just to old? I hadn't used it in approximately four months.

Thank you very much for your help.

Hello!

We changed certificates, but we did it more than 4 months ago (approx. 10 months ago).

Anyway, glad to know that the problem is solved!

Thank you for your prompt reply. My user config files were all there. I changed port number, but no result. I followed your instructions for the next comment ( odnamra) in our post. I tried to reset my Tnblk setup and got as far as the link to the server configs download page, but I keep getting an "internal error" page. My four day trial expires today and I still have not been able to connect. Appreciate any help you can give.

Hello!

It looks like the configuration generator works just fine. Can you please tell us when and where you obtain an "internal error" page? If you click the following link (while you are logged in), does it open the configuration generator page?

this link still gives me an internal error msg '>https://airvpn.org/index.php?option=com_air&view=access&Itemid=100>

The link you posted in the last note won't let me in because i do not have a premium membership- my 4 days must have expired :-(

Hello!

We migrated the system two days ago and re-organized links. The new link is:

I am having a similar issue, until this morning I was able to connect to any AirVPN servers, however now the OpenVPN client just sits at "MANAGEMENT: >STATE: 1394769184,WAIT..." until it times out, then it attempts to connect again and the same thing happens.

This happens on Windows 8.1 x64 running the OpenVPN client when attempting to connect to Nunki (GB) and Megrez (SG) on TCP 443 or 80 which are the only two ports available to me.

I have attached my connection log below, note that this also happens on my HTC One and my iPad 3, however I am able to connect to AirVPN using my mobile data network, which would suggest something is wrong on the ISP level, however the log says that a TCP connection was sucessfully established and that its just waiting for a response from the AirVPN servers.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, cheers guys.

Update:

I have also tried TCP 53 and TCP 2018 and Alt Entry just to be thorough, 53 got no connection and 2018 both normal and alternative entry got stuck on "WAIT" same as below.

Update 2:

Okay so I've managed to establish a connection using SSH on port 80, so I'm thinking this indicates that my Uni is blocking inbound packets from AirVPN over a standard connection, but that once the SSH tunnel is established they can't see where said packets are coming from so they can't block it, though I can't be sure, any insight would be great as I do suffer a speed penalty when routing over SSH.

Update 3:

SSH has also stopped working now, any ideas?

Update 4:

I feel like I'm playing cat-and-mouse with some unknown assasin of VPN connections, I've managed to connect via SSL using STunnel Portable and then routing the VPN over that, so far so good... the performance drop is annoying but I this point I can only conclude that my University has some kind of policy to block protocols that use too much bandwidth... the Uni Admins won't reply to my inquiries so I'm taking that as an admission that they are responsible.
