ANSWERED DD-WRT router behind DSL Router not connecting?

So, I updated the ntp server, rebooted the router, and it won't come back onto the network either wirelessly or via a wire. Am going to go through the restore factory reset from the button on the back and try it all over again.

You try the correct ip? I think ddwrt Standard Setup use 192.168.1.1 give your pc 192.168.1.2 or something

Factory reset leaves dhcp enabled and wifi on too, neither of which are. I'll try an ip in that range.

Found over Google:

To do a factory reset of the router, clearing out all of the settings that have been made, simply take a paperclip to push and hold the small hole to the left on the back of the router that's marked "Reset", until the Power LED on the front starts blinking. Then let go and wait for the Power LED to become stable/solid again. Now you can reinstall the router.

4th time is a charm on the reset button obviously. Back in a mo, I need to find out what state this thing is in.

Success, I think. Well, it's connected, so it was a simple case of 1. forgot to add a cert, 2. forgot to add an ntp server after the factory reset, 3. broke it completely and 4. unbroke it and reset it up again.

 

So, now I know it works I can take out the subscription, and with just 15 mins of life left in th 3 day trial too.

 

Do I just use the firmware update facility through the GUI? In which case is there a specific thing I should be looking for on the DD-WRT site. Presumably just seach for the correct model and take it from there?

I spoke too soon. It was a fluke. It's not reconnecting through OpenVPN again now, and nothing showing in the log at all either. Don't think I changed anything at all, just went away and came back to the computers to find it not working.

 

So how can I force a connection do you think so I can see the logs?

Try Upgrade maybe something is wrong with the firmware

 

Administration tab / Firmware Upgrade select After Upgrade reset to default Settings

Chose Firmware and Start Router reboot of its finished

I've not said it was an R7000, you did kind of mention that model number before but I assumed (as with many Netgear cr@p) it has a few names.

No it's cool. So, I think the newest firmware is the one I have. I may go about getting hold of a newer router once I know this all works. Is there a preferred model these days?

 

I have a number of access points around the property all feeding into the TP Link router which is the DSL router, and it all gets a bit funny when things change.
