Although you have Windows (according to your message log output) and my solution stems from using Linux, it might work for you too. A couple of things I did when I had a similar problem (inactivity timeout and ping-restarts):

1. I checked my router to make sure ping requests weren't being blocked. They were blocked,  so I unchecked the box that blocked ping requests from the internet.

2. Another time I added 'ping 15' (without the tic marks) in the client.ovpn file. What this does is ensure your computer is sending out pings to the openvpn/airvpn server (forget which one) to let it know your computr is 'actively' connected. If your computer is not sending pings (these are sent on the control channel for openvpn) then the server thinks nobody is there and disconnects. It doesn't matter that you are active downloading, browsing, streaming or whatever. It's the pings that matter.

This next solution may (or may not) not pertain to a Windows operating system (it did for one of my Linux systems): if after doing the above you find yourself being disconnected every hour and you have a client.ovpn file that has the line 'auth-nocache' (w/o tic marks), you'll need to delete it or comment it out (putting # in front of it). In Windows AirVPN software you might have something in the setup/preferences that covers username and password handling and if it does check if there's an option for having it cached for automatic retrieval by openvpn/airvpn (if it does then allow it to cache them). Every hour openvpn/airvpn checks for these credentials in cache if they are not already made available from stored certificates and keys (in this case the client.ovpn file would have paths pointing to the location of these certs and keys). If it doesn't get these credntials one way or the other (even if by prompt for manual re-input if that's the setup), then you'll be disconnected every hour. For more information you can search these forums for VPN disconnecting where I have more information on this issue.

Hope this helps. Please post back whether this solves your problem or not.

Thanks for the reply, very explanatory.
:-)

1. I've a router/modem wireless Asus, finding the option of ping request, called "respond to the request ping from WAN", then ckecked OK...
2. I searched in my client.ovpn the line "auth-nocache" but it is not there.

I copy my file client.ovpn for backup, modified the file, appending line text 'ping 15' without tic marks (right?)
I checked my preference in Airvpn: in >Advanced > Network lock the box "Allow ping" is OK.
The same in >Advanced >General "Enable pinger/latency tests"...
In >Advanced >OVPN directives see text below:

# Common:
client
dev tun
resolv-retry infinite
nobind
persist-key
persist-tun
remote-cert-tls server
cipher AES-256-CBC
comp-lzo no
verb 3
connect-retry-max 1
ping 10
ping-exit 32
# UDP only:
explicit-exit-notify 5
# TCP Only:

everything seems in place...

After 2-3 hours Airvpn repeat disconnections.
:-(

I post 2-3 pictures that may show the symptoms of the problem of pinging, with probably newtork malfunction... i waiting another hint for
this.

I Use Kaspersky Internet Security, but i checked all for permits his accessing to internet.

Thanks in advance.

I see ping 10 which should be ok and the other things you changed in the router are ok too (I have ASUS RT-N66 router). The changes you made in AirVPN software seem ok, BUT.  In the fourth pic I see Pinger Stats Invalid 81 but as I'm not a Windows user I don't know what that means. When you made the change in the AirVPN software ">Advanced >General "Enable pinger/latency tests"  maybe the network had too much latency at the time causing it to disconnect - I'm only guessing here since I'm a noob like you when it comes to networking.

Maybe check the Windows firewall to make sure nothing is blocking openvpn or airvpn and their ports. But since you're now getting 2 to 3 hours before a disconnect instead of your original problem of it disconnecting after 1/2 hour it looks like a significant improvement since then, and maybe the problem is just due to intermittent network connectivity (like a latency issue?) and is independent of AirVPN/openvpn.

I'm curious as to how the Windows AirVPN software manages your credentials if you don't have to enter your account username and password to get connected (perhaps these credentials are integrated with the AirVPN software when you first generated and downloaded your keys from AirVPN. Try Googling (or searching the forum) Pinger Stats Invalid 81 and see what you get.

If you report back here what you find it helps us all. My posted solutions are the result of much trial-n-error-to-success after scouring the internet for solutions to try, some which represent many hours of Googling, time which I hope to spare others from having to waste as much as possible.

Dear cyberninja, thank you for attempts to help me, especially when you are a linuxian "good samaritan" for an user to Windows like me.
:-)

I don't use the firewall of windows, but Kaspersky Internet Security with his firewall.
At the side seems all righteous...

You're right, it is an problem out of Airvpn/Openvpn... mmh.

There is a strange behavior: every time i opened firefox, his request my user and pass, but the address shown seemed to have seen it, going

on the router settings here there (see image http://s30.postimg.org/3s1mg9vup/router.jpg).

Strange, is not it?
I've to change something?

If it is problem of credentials how to set this?
This credentials are my users and password memorized at the start of Airvpn or others??

On google i not found "pinger invalid 81"

This problem of pinging came after i upgraded software Airvpn from 2.8 to 2.9.2, damned.

I send another records log with my command "net" of airvpn, but seemed all right, could help me...

Thanks for advance.

OpenVpn Management > DHCP SERV =
. 2015.06.02 09:18:02 - OpenVpn Management > DHCP LEASE OBTAINED = Tue Jun 02 09:18:02 2015

But then it seems to have established a legitimate one.

In any event it does seem to possibly be an issue with the updated version of the AirVPN software to 2.9.2 from the previous 2.8 you say worked without problem. As Giganerd suggests, can you downgrade back to 2.8? In the meantime you might want to contact AirVPN technical support for help with this.

By the way, I did notice in your log that Windows firewall is being statused and that the software uses stunnel (which may or may not be part of the issue if stunnel is disconnecting, but this might  again be a problem with the AirVPN software if stunnel is disconnecting):

2015.06.02 08:37:06 - SSH - Version: plink 0.63 (C:\Program Files\AirVPN\plink.exe)
I 2015.06.02 08:37:06 - SSL - Version: stunnel 5.09 (C:\Program Files\AirVPN\stunnel.exe)

I 2015.06.02 08:42:43 - Checking login ...
! 2015.06.02 08:42:43 - Logged in.
! 2015.06.02 08:44:42 - Activation of Network Lock - Windows Firewall

No matter, I think at this point an inquiry into AirVPN tech support is worth a try.

Big thanks to cyberninja and giganerd.

When I have time I will try all your suggestions.

It 'a shame that with version 2.9.2 unlike the previous I connect several times in the day, unfortunately the damn ping kick me out ... with my frustration

Searching in google I found sites like this: http://jhigham.blogspot.com/2014/02/openvpn-tunnel-options.html - there are some useful commands, but do not understand how to do perform.

See ya.

unfortunately even installing the old version airvpn not worked.
It remains the problem of ping-exit ...

I just have to make the ticket for support, I hope.

Hi Afformia

Years ago I had many problems getting openvpn (not AirVPN back then but any VPN service using openvpn) in Windows. It would get buggy and I could never get resolution, so I switched to Linux OS (Fedora 16 back then, then ultimately the rock-stable Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 back then and now 7.1) and I'm done with relying on Windows for anything important. Windows, in my opinion, is too complex for any user to be able to consistently troubleshoot and resolve when issues such as this are involved (on etime it was my ' Windows recommended' anti-virus program that was causing conflcits behind the scenes and getting rid of solved my problem but then Windows kept warning me with these nuisance messages to get an anti-virus program. I don't use any such protection in my Linux OS and yet it still runs secure relaying on its built-in security mechansims such as firewall, SELinix (Security Enhanced Linux package) and the fact that its not mainstream to hack Linux systems with viruses and malware (I'm digressing here, sorry). Anyway, I hope submitting a ticket for this problem to AirVPN results in a solution for you and if it does it will be very worth posting because finding Windows resolutions is sometimes like finding that needle in the haystack, at least in my experience. By the way, I only use Windows because my day-job forces me to use it and it serves its purpose fine for any work involving MS-Office, Outlook email, Adobe PDF, and plain internet browsing.

Hi,

I had the exact same issue and resolved it alone, find by yourself Bye

No i'm joking, it happened to me because I used AirVPN on 2 devices with the same server. If you use AirVPN on 2 devices or more, use 2 different servers

@victorab:

I've not a problem of two connected servers, but only to connecting to a server Airvpn from my PC - unfortunately without success also with the ticket (I thank him anyway).
It 'definitely a firewall issue as mentioned by
ticket support - i'm searching the error from my PC but so far without success, but continuous...

@cyberninja:

Yes, windows can bring problems, and I have tried so far on the linux virtual machine like VirtualBox - but are not ready to be linuxian

Right, I'm similar looking for a tiny little needle in a haystack, I'm nearing to despair...

Searching the internet, I see that the firewall kaspersky pure gave problems to other users of openvpn and I turned off the router's firewall, without success so far ... there is a promising suggestion to install a previous version of openvpn - I hope .. .
It will take some time.

greetings

Check your windows clock / time and date.

Then if possible Disable DHCP. Use a static ip for your computer.

It looks like when your dhcp lease expires its trying to renew it ->giving you that timeout.

Or look into setting the DHCP lease time on your computer to a much higher number.

Hi rickjames

That's a good tip I'll tuck away for future reference: try using a static IP to get around a DHCP lease-time issue. But, in Afformia's case it seems there's a full day lease time being negotiated successfully, according to the log,

OpenVpn Management > GATEWAY = 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.255
. 2015.06.02 09:18:02 - OpenVpn Management > DHCP SERV = 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.255
. 2015.06.02 09:18:02 - OpenVpn Management > DHCP LEASE OBTAINED = Tue Jun 02 08:45:10 2015
. 2015.06.02 09:18:02 - OpenVpn Management > DHCP LEASE EXPIRES  = Wed Jun 03 08:45:10 2015
. 2015.06.02 09:18:02 - OpenVpn Management > DNS SERV = 10.4.0.1/255.255.255.255

Thanks for the tip - one more for the toolbox (and the one about clock-time and date too).

@richjames

My time and date it's right.

And i tried "disable DHCP and static IP" but always ping kick me out (shit!)

But...how can I do set command to DHCP lease time?? Please, thanks.

Sorry for my inexperienced.

however cyberninja (   my greetings) says all right settings for me, uhm...

thank you all

P.S: I tried and tried all in "Preferences" : modified manual connection with TCP and UDP with his ports, switch DHCP to static, remove default gateway route, even change settings in my router Asus N55U (hints for this??) BUT problems of ping remaing (see image link: http://postimg.org/image/5hqvzjt8v/)

see "pinger stats"??

Hi Afformia

It doesn't seem like the DHCP lease tiem is the issue because your log indicates you have a full day for lease time (24hrs). If you had a Verizon Actiontec router and you were getting a VPN disconnect (not a ping inactivity timeout) then one possibility would be a disconnect every 2 hours because of Verizon Actiontec's ARP cache flushing every 120 minutes (some forums have exposed this as a cause of disconnects). Unfortunately your needle-in-haystack solution remains.

If you want to check DHCP lease time in your ASUS router (mine is RT-N66) after logging into it (192.168.1.1 in your web browser then give login-name and password) you can check the following tabs AdvancedSettings>Lan>DHCPserver. My default is set to 86400 (I assume it's in units of seconds, so that would mean 1 day). If your value is the same then you too should have a full day lease time set in your router. But I don't think lease time is your issue.

By the way, I never did get a solution to a similar problem I had trying to keep openvpn/Windows-software-vpn to stay connected in Windows, so I gave up on it. I tried what I thought was every possible solution that could be given to me on the internet via forums and tech support, but I never found that needle. So I'm sorry to say I'm all out of suggestions on this, but I do look foward to hearing about the solution if you get so lucky. It would be a win for all of humanity, ha ha.

I know this thread is a bit old now, but wanted to say thanks!!!

I've been troubleshooting my connection for about a week and this has solved the issue.

So simple it never occured to me...
