[SOLVED]HTTPS over VPN

Dear AIRVPN users,

 

AIRVPN is configured with success in an asus router (merlin build). Port 80 is redirected to a web server using following post . I can access any website using http but not using https. 

 

The browser display ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR error.

More and more web sites are correctly moving to TLS 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 and also to more secure cipher than RC4 etc. A common cause of that error message is that your browser does not support some protocol. See here, it might help:

That could be an explanation - except that inside my LAN i can access to the https site - I only have a warning as the certiicate is self signed.

 

Maybe I should add that I am trying to access a pydio (ajaxplorer) server and that the server is configured to redirect http requests as https request. Here is a link to this server.

Probably the web server is misconfigured. Check this out (it's only an example of a possible cause): http://www.lodesys.com/blog/2009/resolving.php

 

It would explain why you can connect to your web server locally but not from the Internet.

Thanks for the tip. I reviewed my server configuration and I may have found an issue. It is configured to listen on port 80 for HTTP requests and on port 443 for HTTPS requests. But I am only redirecting port 80 from my router to the server. As soon as I found a solution I will update my post.

I have modified my nat settings in the router to forward from public port to port 443 (instead of 80) on the web server. And I am know able to connect from WAN to web server via VPN and HTTPS.

my college internet is restricted and allows access only to port 443 TCP protocol it is given that air vpn uses open vpn tcp over 443 it would really help me which servers are using this protocol and port

all of them.

 

All of our VPN servers accept connections to ports 2018, 443, 80, 53 in UDP and in TCP. Additionally all of them accept OpenVPN over SSL to port 443 and OpenVPN over SSH to port 22, 53 and 80.
