AUTH_FAILED when switching sites (Tomato)

Recommended Posts

I have a problem when connecting to another site from a Tomato router. The VPN client can't connect to another site for 30 to 300 seconds after stopping the client. If I reconnect to the same site, it connects immediately.

The error message I get in the vpn log is: AUTH: Received control message: AUTH_FAILED

I use ip addresses in the config file

After waiting for up to 5 minutes, it will connect fine.

I've followed the tomato set up instructions in the forums.

I've searched internet and the forums but I can't find much about this problem. I hope somebody can help me with this.

Thanks in advance.

Hello!

Try to add:

explicit-exit-notify

in the list of directives inside the "Custom Configuration Box" in the "Client" (or "Client 2")->"Advanced" tab.

That's because UDP is connectionless, therefore in case of disconnection without notification the OpenVPN server has no way to know that the client disconnected, so the account will be released only after the ping timeout.

Kind regards

Thank you for your help.

I tried adding explicit-exit-notify. If I do so, openvpn on the tomato router won't start!

I've also tried explicit-exit-notify 2/3 but the vpn service won't start either.

I guess this is a Tomato firmware problem but is there a 'work around' for it?
