I only user your service occasionally for accessing certain sites, but recently became aware of what I think may be an issue.

First off, when not on VPN all DNS queries run thru Quad9 as primary and Cloudfare as secondary (both are configured on router so the entire family benefits).

DNSSEC results pass all tests when off of VPN.
DNSSEC results pass 1 test when on VPN.

DNSSEC tests are performed with https://dnscheck.tools
Help file for dnscheck.tool is at https://dnscheck.tools/help

Is this expected behavior? Ive attached screenshots with and without EddieVPN connection.

thanks,

I would like to double check about using correct DNS servers or use them the right way.

I have Mikrotik Router and using locally hosted Pihole docker with 2x DNS servers.
For VPN / airVPN i'm have Wireguard where was for Sweden profile defined AirVPN DNS = 10.128.0.1
So I temporary had 10.128.0.1 as main DNS, but seems like this was giving me issues with clients OUT of VPN (i have VPN Whitelist clients)

As I was setting up the connections it gave me strange issues with pages loading, locations...
So i've returned PiHole x.x.x.2 DNS and seems it's loading pages much better.
I also tried to add AirVPN DNS = 10.128.0.1 into PiHole DNS's , but was behaving strangely

Then today i found this post https://airvpn.org/specs/
"Every VPN server runs its own DNS server that directly finds out information about root servers, top level domains and authoritative name servers."

So now i'm NOT using AirVPN DNS = 10.128.0.1 in any setup and seems better so far.

Means that AirVPN DNS are not universal/open for each client, but somehow bonded to the VPN connection only?
Or there was some other issue with cached DNSs or whatever...?

----

Setting all VPN values right in Mikrotik is challenging so I just want to be sure what to do.

Thanks!
I am not sure if it is intentional or not, but getmonero.org is in that list, however it is not a cryptojacking site, it is a legitimate cryptocurrency site.

I tried to create an exception down the bottom of the DNS page, however it seems it did not take it. Is this expected behaviour?

Aloha,

Sorry if there is a detailed topic elsewhere.

Need help implementing a change to my DNS setting, if at all really needed.
I remember doing something similar in Windows 10 years ago, but W11 settings are somewhat different to what I remember.
Have no real problem currently on my PC, requesting assistance for Laptop, as I couldn't connect VIA Eddie at any hotel Wi-Fi when I was on holiday in Africa and figured it must be a DNS thingy. Back home and have no problems.

I see this:

Then from advanced network settings, I see:

From Wi-Fi I click "more adapter options" and get this:

	click on TCP/IPv4 I get:

	Do I change DNS there?

Or do I change here by selecting manual, if so, do I also add entry for IPv6?:

If changes are made, I make them only to Wi-Fi and Ethernet adapters, but leave TAP-Windows Adapter V9 alone, right?
And I only need to change "DNS server assignment" and no need to change "IP assignment" tab, right?

Any help/clarification would be appreciated, especially with pics and what DNS digits to use and where and if this will have any implications to my general usage of the net.
I came across this topic:

And a few others in the DNS section, but I guess I need more of a "dummies guide!" Especially to get rid of the Google DNS: 8.8.8.8. and best alternatives.
I know about open.nic, but didn't have a clue what to use from there.

Kind regards
I have several DNS lists enabled (per device settings), and recently I found that that they're not always effective. By that I means I could still access the supposedly blocked sites irregularly. For example, I could occasionally access https://www3 dot doubleclick dot net (the website will be redirected if the blocking is not effective). Is this is an expected behavior? If so, could this be improvised to have a more strict effectiveness?

In my situation i need to allow a domain to bootstrap DNS over TLS, for Private DNS Android 9 or higher.

And also i would like to block all .info domains, but how? I tried several things, but at this time i stop at doing exactly specified websites only, since I don't know the correct syntax to deny all .info domains.

Do other people have explored these options in the DNS Section with Custom DNS Rules?

It is important to know that DNS requests are cached, and it takes time that the cache expires, so changes won't be immediately active, but after TTL for DNS in cache expires the changes should work.

I only know the AdGuard Syntax at this moment, which is also comprehensible after several tries.
I have been using the GoodByeAds (the full list) for a while now and everything was smooth. Recently, I noticed that I cannot access google.com. Consequently, all reCAPTCHA requests are rendered invalid. I dug into the problem and found out that GoodByeAds caused the blockage even though google.com is not on their list

Is there an explanation here ? And what to do to whitelist the domain ?
Thanks

[RESOLVED] Adblock doesn't work with Eddie Android Edition

Eddie Android Edition 3.0 ignores DNS lists. AirVPN DNS servers are used, but DNS lists are not applied. Is this done on purpose, so the app is allowed on the Google Play Store?

	OS: windows 10
so as long as i've been using airvpn i have just left my dns settings to automatic. well lately over the last maybe 6 months i've noticed a lot of sites that i click on from search results wouldn't load. all the big names i have no problems it's with oddball results. so i thought it was weird there were so many, so one day i tried accessing them with opera gx with vpn turned on and said sites load fine (except really slow) and come to find out, the same sites will also load when not connected to vpn. so i'm guessing they just aren't listed on air's dns? maybe?

i guess my question is, is it safe to change the dns in control panel/networking to use something like cloud flare or will that comprise privacy? would that fix the issue?

i thought about maybe starting to keep a list of sites that wouldn't load over the vpn in case you guys would want it but i haven't done it so far but i will start if that would help things out. i only run into maybe 1 or 2 a week sometimes it's more or less depending on what i'm doing. but it's definitely been a thing. thanks!

edit: and to be clear, they aren't sites that are blocked because i'm using a vpn (i've run into those too) but when loading the either timeout or 404, like they don't exist.

Hey, everybody... my first post here / subscriber for several years!

Related to the thread created by@stramargio (https://airvpn.org/forums/topic/53332-proposal-meta-formerly-facebook-blocklist/), I propose to have Steven Black's ("anti-") Social hosts list added as an option. I did some cursory comparisons with a couple of the existing master lists in Clients/DNS (infinite thanks for those, by the way, Staff!), and I think this could fill some gaps for many users.

https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts
